Detailed Walkthrough
As you cross the gate threshold into the ghost village, you'll notice a teleporter effect. You'll also note that it's gotten dark again rather suddenly. You then go up the road until you come across the Village Elder Gerwein. He tells you that everyone in the village has been dead for a very long time and no one in the village - except for him - seems to even have realized that they were dead.
| ||
He has two tasks for you and you have to talk to him twice in order to get the first part of the quest. The first part of his quest is to slay the ghost soldiers who are on the other side of the valley.
| ||
Cross the bridge and turn right and follow the road until you come to the ruins of a town. Kill the 8 ghosts there and return to Gerwein.
| ||
He will tell you that the time has come to find out why the village has been under perpetual darkness for 500 years.
| ||
Cross the bridge again, this time turning left. Go around the house on the shore and follow the road until you find a large mound, complete with a T-energy console, a dysfunctional small portal, a few other mad scientist sort of gizmos and the mad scientist himself - the Evocator.
| ||
| ||
Now, when you talk to the Evocator, you'll find that 500 years of darkness has not been agreeable with him. He has quite simply gone mad. He's the one responsible for the perpetual night and he was the reason everyone in the region dropped dead at the same instant the darkness fell.
| ||
You've got no real choice. You've got to put an end to the darkness so you have to put an end to the Evocator. It won't be easy - the Evocator is, after all a Boss level enemy. Kill him and grab whatever goodies he drops.
It's now time to return to Gerwein. He's quite pleased that the Evocator is dead and as a reward, he will give you his diaries that tell the story of the village.
| ||
You'll also notice another transporter effect. You're still in Hagelstein - the name of the Ghost Village, but suddenly it's daylight. The curse has been lifted!
Now all that's left is to return to Artamark's Gate and visit Farek. Make your way there and talk to him. He'll be quite thrilled to hear the tale of your adventure and will be even more thrilled to get his hands the diaries Gerwein gave you. He will then reward you with Gold and some other items. Quest Complete!

Notes
- The ghost chickens roaming around the village square area are hostile but are mostly harmless. Kill them if you will, but they're not worth much experience points wise.
- There's one rather odd bit. There's one of those street performers in the town square who, like all the others, does his best to play the Blind Guardian hit, "This World is Sacred" on flute, guitar and voice. Given the village has been out of touch and sync with the rest of reality for 500 odd years, exactly where did he pick up that ditty? The ghostly echo on his voice, however, is kind of cool.
- There's one Artamark Employee who is located in Hagelstein - Jan Walczak. He, like everyone else in the village is a ghost. However, he won't appear in his place until after you've finished the quest and Hagelstein is returned to the real world.
