Weapon Type
The blowgun is a two-handed ranged weapon usable exclusively by the Dryad. Unlike other ranged weapons they have no projectiles, the damage simply appears on the target without any delay that would allow enemies to move out of the way. The listed damage on the weapon is lower than on Bows however they can attack faster. In the game they are listed under three names:
- Hollowshot
- Blowpipe
- Bamboo Pipe
Blowguns gain bonus damage from Dexterity, the same as all player-usable ranged weapons.
Ranged Weapon Lore Modifications
Blowguns have three unlockable modifiers based on Ranged Weapon Lore. The level 75 modifier requires Ranged Weapon Mastery
At Level | 1 | 25 | 75 |
---|---|---|---|
Modifier | Chance of Secondary Effect | Chance to slow opponent 25% | Chance of Secondary Effect |
Note: The Mastery Unlock (Level 75) provides a lesser bonus than the level 1 bonus. However Energy Staves do obtain the same bonus at Mastery and thus it may have the lesser values for this reason.
The Chance for Secondary Effect bonus is identical to the bonus provided by Damage Lore, increasing the chance of inflicting status effects. It currently displays the increase to all status effects however it only seems to trigger for damage types you are dealing unless you have other equipment with "Chance to {burn|freeze|poison|weaken} +xx.x%" equipped. This modifier is typically found on rings.
Damage Types
Blowguns typically deal multiple types of damage. They will always deal some physical damage, however depending on the weapon they will also deal any of the other damage types. The most common types found have tended to be poison and the least common is fire. The additional damage types are not restricted to a single one at a time, you can have blowguns that have multiple elemental damages, allowing for several different status effects being possible without any additional gear.
Pros and Cons
Pros
- They come with multiple damage types.
- Their unlockable modifiers are very useful, secondary effects can be quite powerful when used properly.
- They fire fast. Unlike other weapons they have virtually no animation time, once the blowgun is to the dryad's lips there is no additional animation for combat.
- Their projectiles have virtually no travel time. Enemies at different distances will get hit at slightly different times however they travel fast.
- They will never miss a moving target as long as the terrain cooperates.
Cons
- They deal less damage than Bows.
- They are two handed, therefore you cannot use a shield unlike Throwing Daggers and Stars.
- They do not pierce.
- Since there is no projectile, you cannot always tell why you are missing. Bows and Thrown Weapons will impact the terrain if it interferes, blowpipes simply miss.
- In bumpy terrain they will constantly impact the terrain, while Thrown Weapons will follow a parabolic course and strike.
- They have less range than bows.
