Shaddar is a powerful necromancer and demon conjurer. Centuries ago, he used to be a member of the enclave of mages at Mystdale Castle but was banished after he created a lich which killed 78 mages. He was thought to have perished in the southern deserts but managed to survive and built a tower in the mountains where he continued his black magic experiments with the ultimate goal of summoning a powerful Sakkara Demon (Ilith'Bah) and stealing its powers for himself to become a god.
The Books we can find scattered around the map give us some more information about Shaddar's intellectual side, indicating that he wrote a book about demons, that he had advanced knowledge about mummies and that he taught classes, since one of his students is mentioned.
Ankarian Quest
Shaddar raises hordes of undead that pour out of Shaddar-Nur towards the west, destroying the desert settlements. Kahari, Aish-Jadar and Nomad-Nur are abandoned, only the walled city of Khorad-Nur is able to contain the undead. Even D'Cay, a dragon and protector of the orcs, is turned into an undead. This causes a movement of orcs towards the north, invading human lands, who see them as enemies and not as refugees.
Later, Prince Valor's soldiers, in an attempt to stop the advance of the orcs, set up a military barracks in the Oasis of Ahil-Tar. Throughout the campaign, the undead will increasingly be found further north as Shaddar's power spreads.
Shaddar disguises himself as Shareefa, the sorceress advisor of Prince Valor, we will meet her for the first time at the abandoned fortress in Tyr-Fasul where Prince Valor has taken refuge after fighting the orcs in Urkuk. She will open a portal to the Oasis of Ahil-Tar so we can go and investigate why the orcs are going north.
We meet her again in the sewers of Braverock, and after showing her the Sakkara Demon's horn, she will accompany our hero to the Monastery of the Seraphim in search of a weapon to defeat it. That weapon will turn out to be The Heart of Ancaria, which she will order us to get.
After gathering the four elements of Ancaria, we meet her in Mystdale Castle and she sends us to Shaddar-Nur for two final pieces: The Element of Void and the Black Book of Sakkara.
Shareefa helps Prince Valor in his revolt against DeMordrey and accompanies us to The Forge of the Ancestors, where she will unite the five elements we have gathered to form The Heart of Ancaria. Shareefa will use the Sakkara Demon's horn and the Black Book of Sakkara to summon Ilith'Bah and thus be able to banish it.
After defeating the Sakkara Demon, Shareefa reveals herself to be Shaddar, who has used you to corrupt The Heart of Ancaria with the demon's blood and plans to seize its power.
Shaddar kills Prince Valor and kidnaps Baroness Vilya, but before he can complete his ritual he dies at the hands of our hero.
Underworld Quest
The experience of his death made Shaddar glimpse things beyond life and death and above all beyond his understanding. His thirst for knowledge was so great that he managed to return to life, but instead of returning to the upper world, he decided to remain in the underworld, in what would be known as Shaddar-Sub, which is actually the deepest part of his tower.
In this campaign Shaddar is called "Shaddar the Enlightened" and we help him by defeating a Subkari who has taken over his tower.
