Detailed Walkthrough
Talk to Malte to learn that he's worried about Lahrian.

His afflictions prompted him to create a Golem to take difficult tasks off his hands. Head to the house and talk to Lahrian. He thanks you for checking on him and admits that he does have a problem. You need to talk to him again to get the Desperately Seeking Golem quest. You can either do that now, or come back later.
Malte who? Oh the merchant! He's worried about me? That's very kind of him. I could indeed do with some help.
Return to Malte and let him know that Lahrian is safe to complete this quest.

Notes
- Having the Golden Coast Resurrection Monument active can save you having to run all the way back down to the coast to check up on Lahrian...unfortunately you'll still have to run back up to get your reward (unless you have the Western Tyr Lysia portal active.
- Although you have to complete this quest in order to access the quest Desperately Seeking Golem, the two quests are not part of a chain (according to the logbook).
- Malte the Merchant promises you discounts on his wares, yet he is not, himself, an interactive merchant...
