When Doc Brown asks Marty how much power it requires to start up his flux capacitor, the answer is 1.21 gigawatts. This is roughly the amount of power generated by a lightning bolt.
The "Great Scott" Doc Brown is referring to is most likely the Arctic explorer Robert F. Scott.
